Suddenly Swimmers

Daniel and Mia had their first try at swim lessons this summer. It was a little rough in the beginning as they were very wary of the whole under water getting the head wet part, but once they figured out it was fun too they were both game. Now we just have to convince them it is okay to swim without the noodle around the waist....

When Daddy is in charge

Here are some of our summer pics from when Dave has been left in charge of certain situations...I love you baby! You really are a great daddy, maybe messy, but great!

Daddy supervised outdoor play
Lacy: "Hon, please keep Sam away from the dirt, he just got out of the tub"
Frustrated Dave: "I can keep him out of the dirt!"
10 minutes later Sam emerged from the yard looking like a mud puddle attacked him.

Zoorific

There is more to the Zoo than animals. Last week I took a preschool zoo camp class with Daniel and Mia. The best reason to take this class was my mom taught it!

My mom is the most amazing woman I know. Not only does she have an amazingly hard job, but she is the best at what she does and she makes time to be with her grand kids whenever she has some spare time. Whenever I am at my wits end because Dave has to work so darned much and I am always alone with the three ninjas, my mom shows up like a stealthy super hero and whisks my kids away. Ahhhh...that is better than Calgon any day my friends. Super Deb is amazing!

The Zoo class was awesome and even though D-Diddy was too sick to go the second day Mia loved every minute with her Lola (grandma Debbie). We saw and touched several animals too (red tailed boa yuck!) and even took a spin on the new carousel. Had our faces painted and ate a tall Giraffe. It was great!

Apricot Leather

Grandma and Grandpa Capson brought a whole mess of apricots my way the other day and I am excited that today is finally the day to make apricot leather! Here is the recipe I like to use. Stop by later in the week if you want to try some. My kids LOVE it!

Apricot Leather
Preheat oven to 150 degrees

2 cups blended apricots
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
2 Tablespoons honey

Mix all in blender and pour onto cookie sheets. Bake in oven for 4-6 hours or until dry. Lay leather on plastic wrap and roll up. Store in fridge or freezer.

You can also add nuts, seeds, coconut whatever else you can think of to the wet leather mixture. My kids are purists, so I have given up trying to impress them with my creativity.

Happy Birthday Grandma

Does that look like fun to you?

Every year my Grandma Capson has a huge blowout bash for her birthday. When I was younger we always ended the evening with a great firework display, but that all ended one year when the fireworks turned the tables and began attacking the crowd of onlookers. Now we just eat good food and celebrate Grandma!

This year Grandpa rented a giant inflatable slide for Grandma and it was a huge success. After over three hours of sliding no one showed any signs of fatugue adn there were tears galore as I loaded up the three ninjas to head home. In case you were wondering minivan rides and bedtimes are NOT good substitutes for giant slides and over indulgent eating.

I'd say the slide coupled with my Aunt Melissa's homemade ice cream sandwiches made for a perfect summer night! BTW Mia ate 4 giant ice cream sammys while sliding. Just thinking about it makes me sick

Target Finds

Target has the cutest clothes, for my price range that is, and so whenever I shop there, which is at least once if not two or three times a week I covet and lament which causes me to break two of the official "Top Ten". Here are some great new Target finds I love...

Here is my dilemma, I wore this lovely brown dress to church last Sunday and three different people asked me if I was pregnant! I love this dress, but should I toss it aside is people think I am that fat? Remember people fat girls have feelings too, DON'T ask the pregger question EVER!

Cuttin It Off

Okay I am ready to change it up in the hair department, but I can't decide if I can pull off the Reese look, or If I should head the Jenny direction. HELP!

Maybe I will just chicken out and keep it log and crazy...

Making and Baking

I love making and decorating cookies with the kids because it keeps them so entertained and I have an instant snack for them to eat at the end of it all.

Cute Wears

I found this Etsy shop and I love thier cute Tees. Check it out!

The Full Spectrum

The Poopy Clutch

I have asked Dave for a sewing machine for my birthday for two reasons:  1.  I have not yet mastered the art of sewing and I am totally self conscious about being 30 and having to use duct tape on the hems on all of my pants to get them short enough for my 24 inch inseam. 2. I need a good reason to be excited about my birthday.

Here is the first project I intend to make. It is called the poopy clutch, and while I know you can buy something like this in the store, I think this is adorable, even if it is only for a diaper.

He wants to "pump you up"

Push up

And Down

D-Diddy has discovered a love for exercising especially running and push ups. I just don't have the heart to tell him that your body actually has to leave the ground in order to count as a "push-up". He is proud of his strength and counting skills. I love my boy!

Welcome to Utah

A few months ago the state called Dave and asked him to design some billboards that will be placed at the state line to welcome people to our great state. Dave did the seven designs you can see above and while we were gone in Oregon the state office of tourism announced the boards are going into production and will be posted at 29 different state line locations. He is super excited and I am willing to bet big bucks that the Meikle crew will be heading on quite a few road trips in the upcoming weeks, so Dave can see all of his signs up close and in person. Do you want to come too?

Here is the DesNews Article about the boards. We missed the TV news stories since we were out of town.

Colorful welcome billboards tout state's diverse tourism options
By Brice Wallace Deseret News

Utah soon will be giving people a new "hi" sign. A total of 29 welcome signs will be placed over the next few weeks at highway entrances to the state, with each of the seven designs promoting a geographically specific tourism attraction that can be found nearby.
The splashy new signs — sporting work by local artist David Meikle — will have larger "Utah" lettering and the "Life Elevated" state tourism brand. The billboards will replace the all-the-same existing signs that note the state's hosting of the 2002 Olympics. Those have been in place for 10 years.
The change is "part of the overall curb-appeal to the state," said Tracie Cayford, deputy director of the Utah Office of Tourism. "It was time to update the signage and put a new foot forward for Utah."
The new signs, larger than their predecessors, feature local attractions. Seven feature skiing; five depict Zion National Park; four each show a dinosaur image, Lake Powell and Delicate Arch; three sport Salt Lake City and its nearby mountains; and two show the Golden Spike trains.
"We're the only state that we're aware of that has done this," said Chad Davis, in charge of special projects at the tourism office and manager for the signs project for that agency.
"When you have a state like Utah that's so diverse, that's been a huge challenge with branding," he said. "We have northern Utah with the mountains and skiing and southern Utah with red rock and the desert. How do you come up with one cohesive branding strategy that encompasses everything? Well, with this, we wanted something that represents different areas of the state."
The figurative road to the new signs started more than two years ago as a priority for Leigh von der Esch, the tourism office's managing director. Funding was the hold-up, but the tourism office and Utah Department of Transportation have contributed to get the $300,000 needed to complete the project.
Davis and designers at Struck, a creative agency that has worked with the tourism office on various promotional materials, took the Meikle artwork and weighed lettering and messaging options for the new signs.
"A lot of the reason you don't notice the ones there now is because the text is so awful," Davis said. "The font that says, 'Welcome to Utah' is faded and just doesn't stand out at all. When people pass these, it probably registers that they see something, but they have no idea it is a 'Welcome to Utah' sign. We've been hearing that for the last two years. People will write us, saying, 'Why doesn't Utah have any welcome signs?"'
The new, large signs will be 10-by-20 feet, up from the current signs' 8-by-16 feet. A smaller version will be 6-by-12, replacing 5-by-10 signs.  Cayford described the signs as "retro-looking and fun and very tourism-oriented." Davis described the artwork as "dead-on."
"It kind of evokes a nostalgic era of motor travel in the U.S., but it's also hip and new, based on the placement and the 'Utah: Life Elevated' brand," he said. On the new signs the "Utah" text is large compared to the current billboards.
"We didn't want to muddle the message by trying to put too many words there," Cayford said. "We opted to go with a soft-sell, because we didn't want to muddle the message, which is 'You're coming into Utah, we're proud of our state, and we want show you some of the beautiful scenery and things that you can see here."'
Cayford noted that the state's new tourism branding has been seen mostly by people outside Utah, but the new signs will help introduce it in-state. About 80 percent of the state's visitors arrive by car, and in 2005, that meant 13.65 million nonresidents entered Utah by highway.   "In the scheme of state government, this is a little project that's a big project," Davis said of the sign enterprise. "It will be seen by millions and millions of people, so our messaging is hugely important."

Dave Hearts Lacy

On Thursday night in Oregon we went to the beach and had a fire. While we were all roasting marshmallows and embarrassing ourselves by singing camp fire songs Dave snuck away and  wrote a message for me in the sand right under our bedroom window.

I LOVED IT!

I thought it was so sweet and if you know Dave or Meikle men in general you know that outward/public displays of affection or romance are just not part of their nature. Knowing that made his message to me all the sweeter. I heart Dave too!

Friday was our last day of vacation and after playing on the beach and lazing around we began the end of the week pack up to leave fun. It was also the Fourth of July, which is my favorite holiday, but somehow felt weird being at the coast and cold not suffering through parades in the Utah heat.

Archie came back form the hospital after being gone since Tuesday morning and we BB-Q'dburgers and watched the fireworks on the beach.

Oregon Thursday

Thursday was the day I had the great idea to get all dressed up and head down to the beach for a family photo. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB idea! We maybe go one shot and the rest you can see for yourself!

We then headed down to Depoe Bay and my favirote candy shop to get our annual supply of salt water taffy and peanut butter heaven which turned into peanut butter purgatory when I ate the whole thing and got sick, very, very, very sick. YUM!

Archie had part two of his surgery on Thursday evening and finally concluded most of the gallbaldder drama.
